Mysteries of Nature:

Posted by MSRISBUD

There is nothing more mysterious and fascinating than nature. I have always been fascinated with the nature's mysteries which not only defy the common logic and recent free time after submission of my PhD thesis has allowed me to read more about this...

Being a chemistry student, I came to know certain things which still amaze me. Its amazing to note that the two elements, hydrogen (which burns itself) and oxygen (which assists combustion) combine to form water which stops the fire...What exact phenomenon causes water to have such properties???

Our human body is also a chemical system in a way with its own mysteries. All naturally occurring sugars have D-configuration while all amino acids have L-configuration. Why exactly this happens when we know from our knowledge that under normal conditions we should get a equal mixture. Also a reaction of photosynthesis which should not occur under normal conditions according to thermodynamic laws occurs all around us so easily and naturally. We all strive to control everything in our lives whereas second law of thermodynamics says that entropy or disorder increases all the time??? :)

All these mysteries intensify considerably when will consider animal kingdom. We consider ourselves as the best evolved species in plant and animal kingdom, thanks to our well developed brain and still we can easily loose our way in busy city streets or outback having many technological inventions at our mercy while the species like migratory birds or African Wilder beasts exactly know their migration route is simply spectacular.

It has long been perceived that apart from humans, animals dont have developed brains or not intelligent enough. I recently came across a fantastic book called "INTELLIGENCE IN ANIMALS" by Reader's Digest which not only changed my opinion about this but also fascinated me to see how various organisms exhibit intelligent and logical behaviour.

About all that in my next post...

Its true what you said!
Just to put my views, there is no conflict between laws of thermo and photosynthesis. you can google for "photosynthesis and second law of thermodynamics" to see.
Also "we think we are the best" because, 'we' are thinking it and we can 'think' amazing things.
Usually every animal is intelligent in one or the other way (that's why they have survived) but humans use technology to master in all ways at once. (its like our childhood comics character... forgot the name.. who has diff animal organs planed in him.. and also there powers!!)

what u say is true Sameer...what I meant with conflict betn photosynthesis and thermodynamics was the free energy change of the process.Free energy change of the process for photosynthesis is around +690 kcal/mol and according to this the process wont be spontaneous...processes with negative free energy are spontaneous and vice versa.
About our thinking, u r absolutely right...i have been reading about various animals and their powers and its simply fascinating.
